About this tool

The product makes one job fast: choose one or more real species without an account, then copy, share or inspect the source. The animal name—not an image—is the focal point.

The maintained source pool, reproducible options and visible provenance are the useful product value. The tool does not claim that a random button alone represents expertise or exhaustive biodiversity.

The launch service exposes 1000 active species. You can request up to ten results, filter by broad animal group or habitat, draw without replacement and avoid recent session results.

Ordinary draws use browser-provided randomness. A seed produces a repeatable, versioned draw; snapshot links preserve public result identifiers. Names and lists can be copied, and each result links to its taxonomic record.

No photographs, illustrations, silhouettes, anatomy or creature-like fallback forms are loaded. Results are expressed through monumental, legible type and a skewed dark-result-over-white-information reveal.

The visual catalogue combines 30 habitat-coded environments with ten art-directed layouts each. These 300 internal scenes vary colour fields, currents, contours, strata, textures and registration marks according to editorial habitat data; they are not a library of 300 animals.

Selection happens first and remains independent of presentation. The chosen record then resolves to an environment and composition; visual palettes or textures can never make a species more or less likely to be drawn.

The dark panel moves from right to left and the name enters in a short sequence. Reduced-motion settings remove the travel or use only an approximately 120-millisecond opacity transition, while the same result text stays in the document.

GBIF Backbone supports the scientific name and species rank only. Localised common names are limited to the first 150 records, while the other 850 use the scientific name and omit per-species habitat labels.

The active 1000-species pool is not representative of global biodiversity, geographic range, conservation status or population frequency. Abstract habitat scenes are expressive interface cues, not scientific maps or identification features.

Results are not wildlife-safety, animal-care or veterinary advice. The service may evolve as taxonomic evidence, language quality, accessibility findings and product needs are reviewed.
